Dear friend:

I am writing you with a cheerful update on my home state of Mississippi. Yesterday, with due diligence, Mississippi’s Lieutenant Governor Delbert Hoseman and House Speaker Philip Gunn presented the state’s 126-year-old Confederate flag as artifacts to the Mississippi Department of Archives and the Museum of Mississippi History.

Their act captured the attention of the world. Historically speaking, during the onset of the Civil War, 55 percent of Mississippi’s population were enslaved. This state produced 75 percent of the world’s cotton. The production of this lucrative cash crop contributed to the luxurious Antebellum lifestyle of slave holders. Per capita there were more Millionaires in the Mississippi River valley than anywhere else in this young nation.

The retired flag featuring 13 stars represents 13 slave states; the Confederate Battle Flag was the second national flag of the Confederate States of America. The retirement of this flag is one step closer to forging healthier race relations, and hopefully, a balanced economy unlike the lopsided economy of the Antebellum South and the Jim Crow South.

As the world celebrates this moment in time, I ask for your confidence in my candidacy. Please vote Dorothy ‘Dot’ Benford for the third congressional district.

Lastly, please donate as generously as is feasible possible to my campaign; together black and white hands retired the Confederate flag and together we can reach higher grounds. https://secure.actblue.com/donate/dorothydotbenfordforcongress

Thank you for your time and consideration. Vote November 3rd. Victory is ours!

Warm regards,

Dorothy ‘Dot’ Benford
